How it works

  1. Enter a seed. A number, a word, or the copied seed from the game's world menu.
  2. The world is generated. From our library of pre-made worlds, or in your browser by a WebAssembly build of Terraria 1.4.5.8's world generator (a small world takes about 20 seconds).
  3. Explore it. Point at any chest to see its items, search for an item, and download the world or open it in the editor.

The map is drawn from the same world file the game would save, not from an approximation, so chest contents, shrines and ores are where the game puts them. Windows PC runs Terraria as a 32-bit program and makes slightly different worlds; pick Played on: Windows PC to see those.

Questions

Where are my Terraria world files?

Windows: Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds. macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Terraria/Worlds. Linux and Steam Deck: ~/.local/share/Terraria/Worlds. Steam Cloud worlds are in Steam\userdata\<id>\105600\remote\worlds.

How do I get my seed?

In the world selection menu, open a world's options and press Copy Seed. The copied seed (for example 2.1.1.123456) carries the size, difficulty, evil and secret seeds. Paste it here as it is.

Does the map match my world exactly?

Maps come from Terraria 1.4.5.8's own world generator. Worlds made on 64-bit builds (mobile, console, macOS, Linux, Steam Deck) match. On Windows PC the game is 32-bit and some caves and chest contents differ slightly: choose Played on: Windows PC on the seed map for the Windows world.

Do old seeds from guides still work?

The seed still works, but world generation changed in 1.4.5, so a seed shared for 1.4.4 or earlier usually makes a different world now. Our Best Seeds page re-checks the famous ones on 1.4.5.

What are the secret seeds?

Special seed texts such as not the bees, for the worthy or 05162020 (drunk world) that turn on special world types. See all secret seeds with maps and downloads.

Is my world uploaded?

No. The world viewer and editor read your file inside the browser, and the editor saves it straight back to your device.
