Drops
Duck drops nothing in the game's drop rules.
Paddling across peaceful surface ponds
Ducks are harmless aquatic fowl that spawn around natural surface water ponds and adjoining grasslands during the daytime. Carrying only 5 life and zero defense, they are completely passive and flee by flying into the sky whenever players or hostile monsters draw near. They paddle gracefully across freshwater surfaces, occasionally dipping their bills underwater or resting along the grassy shoreline, adding tranquil ambience to early surface exploration.
Capturing wetland critters and hearing the human quack
Players can harvest ducks using a Bug Net or Golden Bug Net to store them as inventory critters. Once captured, a duck can be released near player bases, sold to town merchants for silver coins, or combined with Glass to craft a decorative Duck Cage terrarium. Ducks also hold a famous audio easter egg: whenever they make a vocal sound, there is a small chance they emit an unmistakable recording of a human voice reciting the word quack instead of a natural bird call.
Trivia
- Ducks have a rare audio sound effect where a person speaks the word quack aloud instead of playing the animal sound.
- A mallard variation with darker green head plumage can spawn alongside standard ducks.
