Shimmer
- Shimmer turns it into Iron Helmet.
- Made by shimmering Iron Helmet.
Cavern skeleton drops and set bonus compatibility
The Ancient Iron Helmet is an uncommon drop obtained from Skeleton monsters throughout the Underground and Cavern layers with a 1% drop rate. It grants 2 defense for the head slot. Despite sporting a retro appearance from early versions of Terraria, it functions identically to the standard Iron Helmet and directly pairs with Iron Chainmail and Iron Greaves to activate the +2 defense tier-one metal set bonus.
Shimmer transmutation and resource preservation
Players who discover an Ancient Iron Helmet underground can skip spending 15 iron bars on headgear during initial world progression. Tossing this helmet into Shimmer transfigures it directly into a standard Iron Helmet, while submerging a crafted Iron Helmet converts it back into this ancient variant. Combining it with standard iron components allows survivalists to assemble 9 defense without mining additional surface veins or smelting extra ingots.
Trivia
- Submerging this helm in Shimmer converts it into a modern Iron Helmet without loss of value.
- It retains the original helmet sprite used during Terraria's earliest 2011 release versions.
