Directional platinum thrusts and rapid stabbing
Smithing 6 Platinum Bars at an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil produces the Platinum Shortsword, the highest-tier basic ore stabbing blade. Following the directional combat changes introduced in version 1.4.0.1, the shortsword can be thrust toward the cursor at any angle rather than solely forward. It cycles at a blazing 10 use time, delivering 13 base melee damage with 5 knockback.
Omnidirectional defense and close combat role
The rapid stabbing cadence of the Platinum Shortsword allows it to output competitive single-target damage against approaching fighters and grounded slimes. While broadswords like the Platinum Broadsword offer wider protection against flying bats and swarming pests, the shortsword pierces quickly into point-blank threats. It requires fewer ingots to construct than its broadsword sibling, making it an economical early defensive upgrade. For prefixes, Legendary provides the greatest enhancements to thrust velocity, reach, and damage.
