Acquired by opening festive Presents dropped by monsters during the Christmas seasonal event, Star Anise provides festive ranged support. Flung rapidly at Very fast speed (15 use time), each star glides horizontally through the air with subtle gravitational drop, inflicting 14 base ranged damage per hit. The projectile pierces through up to two enemies to strike three targets in total, or ricochets cleanly off solid walls. Its quick release rate allows players to blanket narrow tunnels with spinning stars.
Early boss encounters and shuriken comparisons
Star Anise acts as an upgraded seasonal variant of the Shuriken, offering superior base damage and dependable multi-target penetration. Its piercing capability shreds through Servants of Cthulhu during the Eye of Cthulhu battle and damages multiple segments of the Eater of Worlds without requiring any ore smelting. Stockpiling them during holiday events gives new characters a strong early ranged edge. Consumable stars cannot be reforged.
