Foundry smelting and sweeping overhead defensive arc
Crafted from 6 Copper Bar at an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil. The blade delivers 9 base melee damage with 5.5 knockback at a Fast rate using a 21 animation cycle. Unlike the starting shortsword, this weapon swings through a wide overhead arc, striking flying enemies such as demon eyes and bats that swoop in from above. The sweeping arc also fends off swarming surface slimes effectively during early day cycles.
Early ore tiering and transition to heavier metals
While reliable during the initial day on the surface, the weapon deals four fewer points of damage than its alternate counterpart, the Tin Broadsword. As adventurers descend deeper into underground caverns, upgrading to an Iron Broadsword or Silver Broadsword becomes necessary to pierce higher enemy defense values. Reforging to the Legendary modifier provides the maximum possible enhancements to damage, attack speed, critical strike chance, and knockback resistance.
Trivia
- In older Terraria releases before version 1.2, broadswords could only swing forward without autoswing support.
- Forging the blade consumes six copper bars, equivalent to eighteen copper ore gathered from surface deposits.
