Traditional iron swings and defensive sweep
Forged at an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil using 8 Iron Bars, the Iron Broadsword acts as a foundational melee blade. It swings in a protective overhead arc, inflicting 12 base melee damage with 5.5 knockback at 20 use time. The broad arc keeps basic nighttime foes like zombies and demon eyes pushed away, making nighttime surface traversal and wood gathering much safer.
Ore tier trade-offs and transition to silver
Representing the standard early metal sword for iron worlds, it provides better crowd coverage than the thrust-only Iron Shortsword. While slightly weaker in damage than the Lead Broadsword, it offers reliable defense until players uncover silver or gold deposits in deeper caverns. Its wide swing makes batting away cave bats straightforward. Reforging it with the Legendary modifier grants the greatest increases to damage, swing speed, and size.
Trivia
- The Iron Broadsword has been a part of Terraria since the original 1.0 release.
- Forging it takes 8 Iron Bars, which requires mining 24 raw iron ore.
