Found by smashing Shadow Orbs within the Corruption chasms or opened from Corrupt Crates, the Vilethorn is a versatile piercing magic weapon. Casting it drains 10 mana to project an extending line of dark brambles from the caster. The thorns inflict 10 base magic damage, passing directly through solid walls and striking targets multiple times along the stem.

Segment piercing mastery and wall penetrating tactics

Because the thorny projectile passes through solid terrain and hits enemies multiple times, Vilethorn is one of the most effective weapons against the Eater of Worlds, ripping through several segments at once. It also allows spellcasters to eliminate dangerous burrowing worms or trapped skeletons from the safety of enclosed rooms. In Hardmode, its piercing combat style is echoed by Nettle Burst. Reforging to the Mythical modifier offers the best balance of damage, speed, and reduced mana consumption.

• The bramble spear can strike a single enemy up to three times along its full length.
