Shimmer
- Shimmer turns it into Ambrosia.
Harvesting crimson boughs and citrus extraction
Blood Oranges are obtained by striking or felling Shadewood trees in the Crimson biome. When shaking crimson tree trunks with an axe, there is a chance for citrus fruits to tumble from the branches. Eating a fresh Blood Orange grants the Well Fed buff for 5 minutes (18,000 ticks), delivering +2 defense, +2% critical strike chance, and improved life recovery to withstand hostile foes.
Vampiric cocktail brewing and shimmer transmutation
Blood Oranges can be brought to a Cooking Pot and mixed into a Bloody Moscato, creating an upgraded crimson beverage with a prolonged buff timer. Submerging a Blood Orange in liquid shimmer transmutes the fruit into Ambrosia, granting the player character a permanent 5% increase to mining and block placement speed. Any excess oranges sell for 20 silver to town vendors.
Trivia
- The tooltip playfully describes the fruit as 'A vegan option for vampires', nodding to its blood-red coloring.
- Blood Oranges share the Crimson tree fruit roll with the tropical Rambutan fruit.
