Fossil blade forging and multi-target piercing
Crafted at an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil in sets of 30 using a single Sturdy Fossil, the Bone Throwing Knife offers rapid pre-hardmode projectile offense. Flung at 14 use time, each sharp fossil blade slices through the air to deliver 14 base ranged damage with 1.5 knockback. Unlike single-target throwing daggers, each knife can pierce up to two enemies, striking three total targets before dissipating.
Crowd clearing utility versus single target javelins
While the Bone Javelin excels at single-target puncture during boss encounters, the Bone Throwing Knife is built for clearing swarms. Its piercing capability makes it dependable during Blood Moons and goblin invasions where crowds cluster along barriers. To obtain the requisite sturdy fossils, players can feed desert fossil blocks from the underground desert into an Extractinator. As a consumable item, it does not support modifier reforges.
Trivia
- Each Sturdy Fossil produces 30 knives, yielding ten more projectiles per craft than the bone javelin recipe.
- Its ability to strike three consecutive targets makes it one of the most efficient pre-hardmode crowd-clearing throwables.
