Found inside submerged Water Chests along ocean floors or caught inside Ocean Crates, the Breathing Reed serves as an aquatic survival tool. Holding the reed while submerged in liquid doubles the duration of the player breath meter. Furthermore, if the character stands in shallow water where the tip of the reed extends above the water surface, the breath meter stops depleting entirely.

Submerged melee utility and legendary reforge

Beyond its breathing benefits, the reed functions as a functional melee club delivering 10 melee damage with 4 knockback. Swung with an 27 use time, its Average sweeps fend off aggressive ocean predators like sharks and crabs during early salvage dives. Holding the reed allows players to drain underwater chests and gather sunken ocean loot without drowning. While outclassed by true broadswords on dry land, it remains useful before obtaining a Diving Helmet. Reforging to Legendary enhances swing speed, knockback, and melee size.
