Goblin army plunder and lingering ground traps
Obtained in large quantities from Goblin Army invaders or purchased from the Goblin Tinkerer for copper coins, Spiky Balls serve as reusable floor hazards. Thrown rapidly at Very fast velocity (15 use time), they bounce across blocks and remain stationary for roughly 90 seconds, inflicting 16 base ranged damage with 1 knockback whenever enemies step across them. Each ball can hit multiple targets before finally vanishing. Their lingering presence creates a hazardous zone that punishes mobile ground foes continuously.
Boss arena preparation and crowd suppression
Spiky Balls excel at area denial during hectic boss encounters. Scattering dozens across an arena platform creates a hazardous carpet that shreds segmented bosses like Eater of Worlds and suppresses crawling adds during Eye of Cthulhu or Wall of Flesh battles. Because they deal passive damage while players focus on dodging, they remain highly valuable throughout pre-Hardmode. As consumable thrown weapons, they cannot receive reforge modifiers.
Trivia
- Spiky Balls can persist on platforms and solid blocks for up to 90 seconds before despawning naturally.
- Each individual ball can strike enemies up to six times before breaking.
