Surface exploration caches and blood moon procurement
Discovered inside surface wooden chests and subterranean clay pots, Throwing Knives can also be purchased in bulk from the Merchant for 50 copper coins during any Blood Moon event. Hurled at rapid Very fast velocity (15 use time), each blade flies along a subtle gravity-affected arc, striking targets for 12 base ranged damage with 2 knockback. Each blade pierces cleanly through an initial target, allowing one throw to strike two lined-up enemies before breaking upon impact.
Early ranged progression and poison upgrading
Throwing Knives outperform basic Shuriken in direct single-target impact, giving beginning rangers reliable offensive reach across subterranean shafts. They serve as an essential crafting base when forging Poisoned Knife ammunition, converting ordinary thrown blades into potent poison delivery systems. While eventually superseded by demonite bows or musket firearms, their rapid throw rate helps repel early surface mobs. Because they are single-use consumable projectiles, they cannot receive reforge modifiers.
Trivia
- The Merchant stocks Throwing Knives exclusively during the Blood Moon event.
- Each knife pierces a single enemy, allowing one projectile to strike two targets in a line.
