Venomous wall-crawlers of spider nests
The Black Recluse is a deadly arachnid found in subterranean Spider Nests during Hardmode. Carrying 350 health and 40 defense, it scuttles rapidly across cavern walls and cobweb backgrounds, delivering 100 contact damage in Classic, 200 in Expert, and 300 in Master. Its bites inflict heavy Venom debuffs, rapidly draining player life pools through dense poison.
Harvesting spider fangs for early summoner gear
Spider Nests become prime farming locations immediately upon entering Hardmode. Black Recluses cannot climb off background cobweb walls easily, allowing players to build safe shooting ledges outside nests. Defeating them yields Spider Fangs at a 50% rate (quantity 1–3), which craft the complete Spider armor set, Spider Staff, and Queen Spider Staff, alongside the Poison Staff (2.5%).
Trivia
- The Venom debuff inflicted by Black Recluses deals significant damage per second and cannot be blocked by a Bezoar.
- Black Recluses can climb on background cobweb walls, giving them full vertical movement inside spider nests.
