Dropped by Black Recluse spiders inside subterranean Spider Nests with a 2.5% drop rate at the onset of Hardmode. Casting at a Very slow rate (use time 36), the staff expels a cone of 3 to 4 fangs at the cost of 22 mana. Each fang delivers 43 base magic damage with 5.6 knockback, pierces up to 3 hostiles, and inflicts the Poisoned debuff to deal continuous damage over time.

Early Hardmode shotgun magic and Venom Staff crafting

Available immediately upon entering Hardmode, the staff serves as a powerful close-quarters magic shotgun against early subterranean enemies. More crucially, it serves as the essential component for mid-game weapon progression: combining it with 14 Chlorophyte Bar at a Mythril Anvil or Orichalcum Anvil produces the Venom Staff. At point-blank range, all fangs strike a single large foe for heavy burst impact. Mythical is the premier modifier.
