Subterranean wall-phasing horrors of the deep crimson

In the underground caverns of the Crimson during Hardmode, the Floaty Gross drifts silently through solid rock. As an ethereal mass of twitching viscera, it ignores cave geometry completely, gliding straight through dense stone walls to bite unsuspecting miners. Physical contact inflicts 65 base contact damage and triggers the Weak debuff, lowering the player's physical defensive rating and mobility in tight subterranean spaces.

Farming Vitamins from ethereal flesh apparitions

Because Floaty Grosses can approach from inside impassable walls, weapons that project through solid terrain or deploy homing magic are ideal for neutralizing them before they strike. Dispatched entities possess a 1% chance to yield Vitamins, making them the Crimson's primary renewable supplier for crafting the Ankh Charm. They also drop Vertebrae (33.3%), the Meat Grinder (0.5%), and the macabre Eater of Life painting (0.5%).

Trivia

  • The Floaty Gross serves as the Crimson biome's equivalent to the Corruptor for acquiring Vitamins.
  • Because it moves through blocks freely, it can surprise players even inside fully walled hellevators.
