Ricocheting shadowbeams off subterranean masonry
Necromancers teleport along post-Plantera Dungeon halls, appearing primarily in sections backed by tiled and brick walls. Donned in dark purple robes, they channel an instantaneous violet beam that bounces repeatedly off solid stone walls. Because this beam travels with zero flight delay and ricochets around corners, ducking behind cover provides little safety. Their magical contact hits at 50 damage in Classic (scaling to 100 in Expert and 150 in Master), piercing unwary explorers from off-screen angles.
Silencing arcane casters for the shadowbeam staff
With 300 life in Classic and 18 defense, Necromancers cannot sustain prolonged punishment once cornered. High-mobility combatants should rush their position or deploy piercing ranged strikes and aggressive minion summons to stagger them between casts. Defeating a Necromancer grants a 5% chance to obtain the Shadowbeam Staff, a coveted magic weapon that grants players the very same instantaneous, ricocheting purple laser to devastate enclosed enemy clusters.
Trivia
- The Shadowbeam cast by a Necromancer travels instantaneously across the screen without projectile flight time.
- Necromancers will warp to a new tile location immediately upon receiving significant knockback or damage.
