Dodging homing lost souls through slab chambers
Ragged Casters appear exclusively in post-Plantera Dungeon sectors backed by slab walls. Dressed in tattered ghostly rags, these spectral spellcasters teleport silently between platforms before conjuring slow-moving white spirit projectiles known as Lost Souls. Unlike conventional projectiles that shatter on contact with tiles, these homing spirits phase through solid walls and track the player across considerable distances. Getting hit inflicts 40 damage in Classic (surging to 80 and 120 in Expert and Master), while also draining caster reserves.
Farming the spectre staff in post-plantera corridors
Ragged Casters boast 400 life in Classic and 20 defense, making them significantly bulkier than other dungeon casters. Because their homing souls bypass solid obstacles, players cannot hide behind walls and must actively engage them in open space with rapid-fire weapons, homing arrows, or long-range whips. Defeating a Ragged Caster offers a 5% opportunity to obtain the Spectre Staff, a formidable endgame magic weapon that fires aggressive, high-damage homing spirit bolts.
Trivia
- The homing Lost Soul projectiles fired by Ragged Casters ignore solid tile collision until striking the player.
- Ragged Casters exclusively inhabit sections of the dungeon backed by slab-textured wall backdrops.
