Marrying crowd control to early pumpkin moon waves
Scarecrows act as the initial ground vanguard of the autumn invasion summoned via the Pumpkin Moon Medallion. Starting in the very first wave and persisting through intermediate stages, they charge across the battlefield with notably higher knockback resistance than surface zombies. Boasting 500 health in Classic (which rises to 600 in Expert and 900 in Master), they cannot simply be pushed away with light swords. Piercing projectiles, ricocheting magic, and spiked ball traps help thin out their dense ranks before larger threats take the stage.
Resisting status afflictions and dropping festival attire
Unlike ordinary undead, scarecrows possess immunity to both Confused and Poisoned status conditions. Trying to turn them back with confusing weapons or venomous coatings proves ineffective. Defeating them adds wave points to advance the night, while also providing chances to obtain the three-piece Scarecrow vanity ensemble. Each clothing item—the hat, shirt, and pants—drops individually at a 3.33% rate, allowing players to dress in patched burlap.
Trivia
- There are ten visually distinct scarecrow sprites appearing throughout the event, featuring different facial expressions and pumpkin caps.
- Scarecrows reward one wave point when slain, helping trigger earlier appearances of the event bosses.
