Cursed desert undead in the corrupt sands

The Vile Ghoul is an infected undead predator that haunts the Underground Desert when corrupted by the Corruption in Hardmode. Armored with 30 defense and carrying 250 health, it sprints aggressively through purple sandstone corridors, striking with 60 contact damage in Classic, 120 in Expert, and 180 in Master. Its vicious claws inflict the Cursed Inferno debuff upon contact.

Cursed flame harvesting and dark shards

Because Cursed Inferno prevents natural health recovery and cannot be extinguished by water, keeping distance from Vile Ghouls is essential for survival. Using piercing weapons like the Onyx Blaster or Megashark stops their forward charge. Defeating Vile Ghouls yields Cursed Flames at a 33.3% rate (quantity 1–3), Dark Shards at 6.67%, and Ancient Cloth at 10%.

Trivia

  • Its strikes inflict Cursed Inferno, making it one of the few ground fighters outside the Corruption chasms to deal cursed fire.
  • Combining its Dark Shard drops with Light Shards from Light Mummies yields the Dao of Pow.
