Ice enemy hunting and piercing frost streams
The Frost Staff has a 2% drop rate from Ice Elemental and Icy Merman in the cavern layer of the Snow biome in Hardmode. When used, the staff consumes 12 mana to project a jagged icicle bolt at rapid velocity. This projectile pierces through enemies and inflicts the Frostbite debuff, sapping the life of affected targets over several seconds.
Magic projectile velocity and mythical modifier
Delivering 46 base magic damage at very fast speed, the staff provides mages with an accurate long-range sniping tool in early Hardmode. While it lacks the bouncing crowd control of the Flower of Frost, its straight-line trajectory makes landing hits on flying Wyverns and fast mobs much simpler during outdoor battles. Reforging to Mythical provides the greatest enhancement to damage, velocity, and mana efficiency.
Trivia
- Unlike many early magic staves, the projectile from the Frost Staff travels fast enough to lead moving targets easily.
- The Frostbite debuff applied by this weapon cannot be cured by submerging the afflicted target in water.
