Introduced in update 1.4.5, this accessory is discovered within Wooden Chests throughout Surface and Underground biomes, or obtained by opening Wooden Crates and Pearlwood Crates from fishing. Equipping the barb causes arrows fired from bows and repeaters to inflict the Poisoned debuff upon struck enemies. This delivers consistent damage-over-time pressure against early boss targets and cavern monsters without requiring the continuous crafting of specialized ammunition like Poisoned Arrows.
Crafting upgrades and ranger synergy
At the Tinkerer's Workshop, combining the barb with a Honey Comb produces the Sweet Barb, releasing defensive bee swarms whenever damage is sustained. In Hardmode, combining it with a Philosopher's Stone yields the Catalyst Band. Archery setups benefit from this accessory because rapid-firing bows and piercing arrows continuously refresh poison durations across entire groups of approaching enemies during cavern exploration or invasion events without expending additional mana or consumables.
