Surface chest discovery and elevated platform reach
Found within wooden chests on the surface or hauled up inside wooden crates and pearlwood crates. While standing grounded on solid terrain, pressing and holding the upward direction key elevates the character atop a portable wooden stool. This temporary posture raises player height by several tiles, extending the vertical reach of pickaxes, axes, and placement cursors toward high ceiling blocks. Mining high ore deposits and placing torches in tall cavern grottos becomes straightforward without expending wood on disposable dirt scaffolding.
Building utility and Hand of Creation integration
Architects utilize this elevation boost to hang lighting, sculpt tall room frames, and excavate overhead ore pockets without stacking temporary dirt pillars beneath their feet. Releasing the control immediately returns the player to a standard stance, allowing swift transitions between construction and combat. At a Tinkerer's Workshop, the Step Stool combines with five other construction devices to forge the Hand of Creation, serving as a structural component for endgame building efficiency.
Trivia
- Standing atop the stool shifts the player's bounding box and interaction center upward while held.
- Releasing the up key immediately drops the character back to natural standing ground height.
