Drops

Merchant drops nothing in the game's drop rules.

Silver thresholds and early market arrival

The Merchant is one of the earliest townspeople players recruit during a playthrough. To persuade him to arrive, players must construct a valid empty room and accumulate at least 50 silver coins across all players inventories. Breaking clay pots, slaying cave zombies, and opening surface chests quickly provides the necessary pocket currency.

He possesses 250 life and 15 defense. When night falls and zombies breach outer doors during an invasion, he defends his storefront by slinging sharp throwing knives at approaching monsters with steady aim, keeping his shop counter secure until dawn breaks.

Essential expeditions, storage vaults, and tool stocks

His shop provides foundational exploration supplies that kickstart every adventure. He sells the Bug Net, an indispensable tool for catching worms and fireflies to supply fishing bait, as well as the Mining Helmet, which mounts a directional lantern onto the player head for hands-free underground cave exploration.

He also stocks Torches, Lesser Healing and Mana Potions, Wooden Arrows, Shurikens, Rope coils, and an Iron or Lead Anvil for crafting basic tools without smelting early metal ore. Most importantly, he sells the Piggy Bank and Safe, portable secure vaults that store player coins and rare treasures safely away from the risks of combat death.

Forest marketplace and early tool supplies

The Merchant appreciates traditional grassy environments with steady foot traffic and familiar scenery. Checking the preference table above reveals his full environmental tastes and neighbor rankings.

Setting up his initial wooden storefront in the Forest alongside the Nurse secures useful early discounts on mining essentials like torches, the Bug Net, and the Piggy Bank while activating the Forest Pylon. His shop inventory grows with player wealth, offering the Safe and Disco Ball as progression unfolds.

Trivia

  • Purchasing the Bug Net from his counter is mandatory to begin catching fishing bait and completing Angler quests.
  • During Blood Moon nights, his store expands to sell Throwing Knives in bulk for extra defense.
