| Wood Fishing Pole | 8 × Wood | Work Bench |
Primitive bench assembly and early pond casting
The Wood Fishing Pole is crafted using 8 Wood at a Work Bench, making it the most accessible fishing rod in Terraria. Supplying 5% fishing power, it allows newly created characters to engage in angling on day one without mining metal ores. Players can hook basic catches like Bass, retrieve Wooden Crates, and begin completing daily quests for the Angler.
Overcoming low pole power with bait and conditions
Because 5% fishing power is very modest, catching valuable crates or rare quest fish requires maximizing other variables. Anglers should use potent bait such as a Worm (25%) or Enchanted Nightcrawler (35%), cast into large bodies of water with 300 or more unobstructed liquid tiles, and fish during rain or at dawn and dusk. As soon as eight iron or lead bars become available, players should upgrade to the Reinforced Fishing Pole.
Trivia
