Town NPCs charge less when they are happy: the game lowers their prices for loved and liked biomes and neighbours and raises them for disliked and hated ones.

Drops

Angler drops nothing in the game's drop rules.

Waking up the stranded fisherman

The Angler does not appear in town on his own. Players must discover him unconscious, floating on the surface waves or resting on the sand at the far Ocean edges of the map. Interacting with the slumbering boy wakes him up. Once awakened, he will relocate to any unoccupied room with a chair, table, and light source during daylight hours.

Unlike most hardy villagers, he maintains 250 life and 15 defense, meaning exposure to hostile ocean crabs or stray zombies quickly puts him in danger. When cornered by enemies, he flings Frost Daggerfish to fend them off.

Daily quest fish and reward rotations

Each morning at 4:30 AM, his quest objective resets and he requests a single exotic quest fish from a designated biome and elevation, such as Cavern pools, Sky Lakes, or the Jungle. Handing over the requested catch yields coins, specialty baits, and fishing equipment.

His reward pool includes crucial items for anglers, such as the High Test Fishing Line, Angler Tackle Bag components, the Golden Fishing Rod after 30 completed requests, and the Bottomless Water Bucket. Most importantly, he provides the Fisherman's Pocket Guide, Weather Radio, and Sextant, which combine into the Fish Finder required to construct the Cell Phone. Quests can be completed once per in-game day per character.

Seaside lodging and temperamental preferences

For optimal happiness and reduced store prices across the village, build his quarters directly over the Ocean. He loves the salty breeze of the Ocean biome, which boosts his mood significantly. He also appreciates living close to the Demolitionist, Party Girl, Princess, and Tax Collector.

Conversely, he dislikes the Tavernkeep and detests the arid Desert. Placing him in a sandy inland biome will sour his mood and inflate trading costs for neighboring residents. Keeping him secluded by the water with a nearby pylon makes daily quest turn-ins swift and convenient.

Trivia

  • He is depicted as an orphaned child, so the game displays a departure message rather than a death notification when he loses all health.
  • Finishing 200 quests for him rewards the prestigious Supreme Helper Minion achievement.
