Surface timber construction and basic melee coverage
Forged from 7 plain Wood at a basic Work Bench, the Wooden Sword serves as the earliest broadsword available to newly created adventurers. It swings across a generous overhead arc, dealing 7 base melee damage with 5 knockback at Very fast swing speed (20 use time). This sweeping motion shields players against jumping Blue Slimes and nocturnal Zombies, improving survivability compared to narrow shortswords.
Early weapon upgrades and legendary reforge
While offering substantial arc protection over the starting Copper Shortsword, it represents the lowest damage tier among broadswords. Players quickly replace it upon chopping desert cacti for a Cactus Sword or mining tin and copper deposits for proper metal blades. It does not factor into the crafting tree for Night's Edge. Reforging it to Legendary grants the greatest improvements to base damage, swing velocity, weapon reach, and defensive knockback.
Trivia
- Its sweeping arc covers both horizontal and vertical vectors, making it far safer than linear shortswords against hopping slimes.
- It has served as the baseline craftable broadsword since the initial release of Terraria.
