Enemy Banner: Zombie Banner

Leaving doors open may be an invitation for shambling brain-eaters to enter the home, and nobody likes that.

Surviving the first surface nights

Zombies are the primary threat greeting fresh characters once dusk falls over the surface. Carrying 45 health in Classic (scaling up to 90 in Expert and 135 in Master), they slowly march across open terrain toward player shelters. Their movement speed is modest, meaning a standard wooden broadsword easily resets their advance with steady knockback. Early survivors should avoid getting cornered against hillsides, where multiple walking corpses can trap an unarmored player and rapidly inflict lethal hits dealing 14 contact damage.

Bashing down shelter doors during a blood moon

Under regular night conditions, closed wooden doors completely halt zombie entry. Everything changes when a Blood Moon rises: zombies gain the ability to batter against closed doors until they burst open. Placing a single interior block or torch directly in front of the door prevents it from opening inwards, rendering bases safe from sudden invasion. Farming these nocturnal walkers yields the Shackle accessory at a rate of 2%, offering an early defense boost, alongside the Zombie Arm club at 0.4% and the rare Spiffo Plush vanity pet at 0.067%.

Trivia

  • Zombies feature numerous visual variants, including torch-wielding, armed, and slim variations.
  • During seasonal events like Halloween and Christmas, zombies appear dressed in superhero outfits, nurse scrubs, or holiday sweaters.
