Drops

The Hungry drops nothing in the game's drop rules.

Shielding the flesh titan along the underworld ash

The Hungry serve as the living, snapping outer perimeter of the Wall of Flesh during the pivotal underworld boss battle. Tethered directly to the monstrous wall by sinewy fleshy cords, they lunge toward the retreating player, snapping their jaws to inflict 30 contact damage in Classic. With 240 life in Classic and 10 defense, their primary purpose is acting as a dense physical shield that intercepts arrows, bullets, and magic projectiles before they can strike the boss's vulnerable eyes and central mouth.

Severing fleshy tethers in expert mode boss runs

Piercing armaments such as the Demon Scythe, Beenades, fiery bows firing piercing arrows, or the Hellwing Bow excel at tearing through multiple Hungry at once. In Expert and Master modes, their defensive stats jump to 16 defense and 60 damage. Even more dangerously, killing an attached Hungry in higher difficulties detaches its head, transforming it into a high-speed flying predator that aggressively pursues the player. Clearing these severed heads while keeping pace along the bridge is essential to surviving the encounter.

Trivia

  • Each defeated Hungry drops a recovery heart upon death, helping replenish player health throughout the boss battle.
  • In Expert and Master modes, slain Hungry detach from the main wall and fly freely at high velocity.
