Solar Eclipse vampire drops and secret chests

The Amulet of the Night is a mount item introduced in update 1.4.5, dropped by Vampire and Vampire Bat enemies during the Solar Eclipse with a one in forty drop chance. It also generates within subterranean chests scattered throughout vampire-themed secret world seeds. Using the amulet inflicts the player with the curse of the bat, instantly shapeshifting the character into a fluttering nocturnal bat rather than riding an external creature.

Hovering flight and compact profile dodging

While transformed into bat form, the player gains infinite hovering flight with protection against falling damage. The transformation compresses the player collision box into a tiny silhouette, allowing nimble movement through tight one-block gaps and cramped cavern passages where larger mounts cannot fit. This miniaturized profile makes dodging bullet patterns and boss projectiles straightforward. However, the curse breaks and cancels the mount if the player uses any weapon, tool, or usable item, prioritizing escape and scouting over direct combat engagement.

Trivia

• The Amulet of the Night directly shrinks the player hitbox to match its small bat sprite while airborne.
• Any attempt to swing a sword, fire a bow, or place blocks immediately cancels the bat transformation.
