Drops as a 1% reward (2% in Expert Mode) from the Ice Tortoise in the Underground Snow biome during Hardmode. It automatically deploys a protective barrier around the wearer whenever current health drops below 50%. While active, this Ice Barrier reduces all incoming damage by 25%. The damage reduction applies multiplicatively alongside standard armor defense calculations, mitigating dangerous boss impacts.

Defensive tank setups and shield fusion

The shell serves as a premier defensive trinket for surviving high damage spikes in Master Mode boss encounters. It combines at a Tinkerer's Workshop with the Paladin's Shield to create the Frozen Shield, one of the sturdiest defensive accessories in the game. Stacking this with Endurance Potions and beetle armor provides substantial damage mitigation for melee survivability. Reforging to Warding adds 4 defense to compound the shell's percentage mitigation.

• The Ice Barrier visual aura continues to shield the player even while riding mounts or flying with wings.
• The 25% damage reduction applies before damage is absorbed by teammates using a Paladin's Shield.
