Surface chest discovery and defensive spinning

Found within surface wooden chests and shallow cavern containers, the Mace serves as an entry-level flail for beginning warriors. When used, it deals 9 base melee damage at a Very slow pace. Holding the attack button maintains a spinning rotation around the player character, shielding against crawling slimes and bats, while releasing throws the spiked weight toward distant targets.

Immediate craft upgrading and early melee rating

While its base damage is modest, the Mace can be upgraded immediately into a Flaming Mace using 99 Torch items in the crafting menu without any anvil or furnace. Because flails can be spun indefinitely to guard narrow tunnels, the weapon provides strong defensive safety during initial mining trips. Later in progression, it is superseded by stronger biome flails such as the Ball O' Hurt. Godly is the optimal reforge modifier for damage and knockback.

• The Mace was added in the 1.4.0 update to give players an early-game flail before exploring evil biomes.
• Releasing the attack button while spinning launches the head in the direction of the cursor with extended range.
