Dropped by the Eye of Cthulhu Treasure Bag in Expert and Master Mode, the Shield of Cthulhu grants 2 defense and enables a rapid combat dash. Double-tapping left or right propels the character forward, dealing 30 base melee damage with 9 knockback upon impacting a monster. Colliding with an enemy produces brief invulnerability frames and bounces the character backward, preventing incoming contact damage.

Evasive timing and melee counterattack mechanics

The combat dash acts as a reliable mobility tool throughout pre-Hardmode and early Hardmode boss encounters. Timing the dash into charging bosses like the Eye of Cthulhu or Skeletron neutralizes their collision damage while dealing 30 melee damage back. The sudden velocity burst also allows players to escape dangerous attacks, outrun charging projectile volleys, and reverse momentum during mid-air maneuvering on sky arenas.
