When carried, it continuously scans a wide radius around the character and alerts the explorer to the most valuable treasure tile nearby. The internal detection hierarchy prioritizes rare targets like Strange Plants, Life Crystals, Life Fruit, and unopened Chests above valuable hardmode ores and standard metals such as gold or platinum.

Passive informational utility and Goblin Tech assembly

Operating as an information accessory, it displays findings across the screen while stored in the main inventory or Void Bag, never requiring a dedicated equipment slot. It also broadcasts its readouts to nearby allies during multiplayer expeditions. Combining the detector with a Stopwatch and a DPS Meter at a Tinkerer's Workshop creates the Goblin Tech, consolidating three critical scouting readouts into a single portable device for future PDA crafting.
