Underworld chest discovery and flaming flail mechanics

The Sunfury is acquired by unlocking locked Shadow Chest caches in the Underworld or opening an Obsidian Lock Box pulled up through lava fishing. As an advanced pre-Hardmode flail, it strikes foes for 32 base melee damage and inflicts the On Fire! debuff. Players can hold down the attack button to spin the flaming spiked ball in a continuous circle around their character, establishing a protective barrier that deters charging bats and crawling slimes.

Extended flail thrusts and critical strike potential

Releasing the attack button launches the flail outward, delivering heavy kinetic impact with strong knockback of 6.75 and an elevated critical strike chance of 11%. Operating with a Very slow recovery time of 45 ticks, it easily surpasses Dungeon counterparts like the Blue Moon in sheer burst damage. Because flail chains cannot benefit from weapon size scaling, the weapon cannot receive the Legendary prefix; Godly and Demonic provide the highest boosts to damage, critical strike chance, and knockback.

Trivia

• In very early versions of the game, Sunfury dropped from defeated Bone Serpents before being relocated exclusively to Underworld Shadow Chests.
