Angler Fish in Terraria

Enemy Banner: Angler Fish Banner

Some angler fish are content to lie in wait for their prey, but these are perfectly happy to aggressively chase down an underwater meal.

Luminescent ambush hunters in flooded cavern pools

The Angler Fish is an aggressive aquatic predator that swims through flooded cavern pockets during Hardmode. Equipped with 90 life and 22 defense, it navigates dark waters with agility, dealing 80 contact damage in Classic, 160 in Expert, and 240 in Master. Its glowing lure illuminates subterranean pools, often alerting miners right before it charges at high swimming speeds.

Netting adhesive bandages for ankh charm assemblies

Submerged combat against Angler Fish is risky without Neptunes Shell or water-breathing potions, making it far safer to bait them to the surface of cavern pools with yo-yos or ranged weapons. Slaying an Angler Fish yields the Adhesive Bandage at a 1% rate, a crucial item for assembling the Medicated Bandage and Ankh Shield, as well as the vanity Robot Hat at 0.4%.

Trivia

  • Despite being an aquatic mob, the Angler Fish emits a steady light level from its forehead lure in total darkness.
