Enemy Banner: Demon Eye Banner

That suspicious feeling of being watched may very well come true in the dark of night, when Cthulhu's minions roam the skies.

Swooping flight patterns across the dark canopy

Demon Eyes drift across open forest skies throughout nighttime hours, tracking player movements with sweeping diagonal charges. Each eye floats steadily overhead before turning abruptly and lunging downward. Contact inflicts 18 damage in Classic, while Expert and Master modes elevate the hazard to 36 and 54 damage respectively. Because they bounce backward whenever hit by weapons with knockback, swinging a broadsword or overhead spear right as they swoop creates an effective barrier that repels them safely.

Farming lenses for ocular summons and laser optics

Hunting these nocturnal wanderers is essential for early world progression. Demon Eyes drop standard Lenses at a 33% probability. Taking six Lenses to a Demon or Crimson Altar produces a Suspicious Looking Eye, allowing players to challenge the Eye of Cthulhu on demand. Much rarer is the Black Lens, falling at a 1% rate; this dark optic is required to craft Sunglasses as well as the Optic Staff summon weapon in Hardmode.

Trivia

  • Demon Eyes appear in several size classifications, with larger variants exhibiting slightly greater durability and smaller ones moving with increased agility.
  • Striking a Demon Eye while it is swooping immediately interrupts its forward charge and knocks it backward.
