Persistent looping chasm swarms in early corruption
The Eater of Souls is the hallmark flying terror of the Corruption, infesting the purple chasms from the moment an explorer steps into the biome. These winged monstrosities move in wide, arcing loops, circling around their prey before darting inward to deliver biting strikes. Because they can spawn in groups and navigate past uneven terrain, descending into corruption chasms without an effective broadsword or piercing spear often results in being overwhelmed.
Harvesting Rotten Chunks for Worm Food and ancient armor
Farming these ubiquitous flyers is essential for progressing through pre-Hardmode. They have a 33.3% drop rate for Rotten Chunks, which are combined with Vile Powder at a Demon Altar to brew Worm Food and summon the Eater of Worlds/. Lucky hunters may also uncover individual pieces of Ancient Shadow armor, including the Ancient Shadow Scalemail (0.19%), alongside the nutritious Burger (1%) and Tentacle Spike (0.19%).
Trivia
- Eaters of Souls generate in three distinct size variants, with larger specimens boasting slightly more mass.
