Tunneling corruption worms of pre-hardmode
The Devourer is a segmented burrowing worm that infests the chasms of the Corruption in pre-Hardmode. Armed with 100 total health and 2 defense across its body segments, it burrows through ebonstone to lunge at players with 31 contact damage in Classic, scaling to 62 in Expert and 93 in Master. Attentive spelunkers can hear its digging sounds before it breaches cave walls.
Segmented burrowing and worm tooth drops
Because each of its segments can be struck independently, piercing weapons like the Vilethorn, Ball O' Hurt, or Jester's Arrows deal multi-hit damage along its length. Slaying Devourers guarantees Worm Teeth at 100% (quantity 3–8), essential for crafting Unholy Arrows, with chances for Rotten Chunks at 33.3% (1–2) and the Tentacle Spike (0.19%).
Trivia
- Its head, body, and tail segments possess independent hitboxes that take damage separately.
- Its Worm Tooth drop allows early ranger builds to craft high-piercing Unholy Arrows.
