Desiccated subterranean wanderers in underground sands

Deep within the caverns of the Underground Desert, the standard Ghoul patrols dusty tunnels and sandstone ruins during Hardmode. Carrying 180 health and 26 defense, it moves with relentless speed toward any light source, dealing 50 contact damage in Classic, 100 in Expert, and 150 in Master mode. While variant ghouls haunt infected dunes, this base form rules pure desert caverns.

Recovering ancient cloth from subterranean ruins

Navigating underground desert pits requires vigilance against falling ambushes, as Ghouls sprint quickly across sand mounds. Slaying these mummified fiends provides a 10% chance to drop Ancient Cloth (yielding 1–3 pieces per drop). Ancient Cloth serves as the core crafting ingredient for tailoring Ancient garments and decorative desert garments at a Loom.

Trivia

  • Ghouls transform into corrupted, crimson, or hallowed variants if their underground desert biome becomes infected.
  • They possess higher movement speed than basic surface zombies.
