Burrowing sandstone serpents of the early desert
Tunnelling through dunes and subterranean caverns of the pre-Hardmode Underground Desert, the Tomb Crawler ambushes spelunkers from within solid tiles. Consisting of multiple segments with 60 health and 0 defense, it glides through hardened sand, striking for 18 head damage in Classic, 36 in Expert, and 54 in Master mode.
Extracting sturdy fossils from segment drops
Because the Tomb Crawler burrows freely through tiles, standing on elevated platforms or hanging from ropes prevents it from easily striking players from below. Piercing weapons like grenades or spears shred through its connected segments simultaneously. Slaying this subterranean serpent yields a 50% chance to collect Sturdy Fossil (dropping 1–2 fossils per drop) for early armor crafting.
Trivia
- The Tomb Crawler's zero base defense makes it vulnerable to multi-hit and piercing attacks.
- Its movement sounds give early audio warnings when tunneling through nearby sandstone walls.
