High-altitude aviators guarding floating island cloudbanks
Harpies inhabit the Space and Sky layers of the map, constantly harassing explorers who build skybridges or search for Floating Islands. Endowed with 100 health and 8 defense, a Harpy swoops gracefully through thin air to deliver 25 contact damage (50 in Expert and 75 in Master). While circling, it periodically releases volleys of sharp feather projectiles directed toward players.
Collecting giant feathers for early winged flight
Because Harpies attack in groups at high altitudes, constructing enclosed wooden shelters or deploying piercing magic like the Space Gun keeps their feather volleys at bay. Defeating Harpies provides Feathers at a 50% rate for flight potions, Chicken Nuggets at 2%, and a 0.67% chance for the Giant Harpy Feather, used to craft decorative Harpy Wings in Hardmode.
Trivia
- Harpies spawn continuously at sky elevations, making skybridge construction hazardous without enclosed roofs.
