Underground jungle roots and reach
Anchored firmly to mud blocks deep within the Underground Jungle, the Man Eater extends a snapping floral maw on a flexible vine stem. It possesses 110 life and 10 defense, stretching through solid terrain to ambush spelunkers excavating natural caverns. In Classic mode its bite inflicts 34 contact damage, scaling up to 68 in Expert and 102 in Master. Because its vine allows it to lunge through walls, exploring unlit jungle caverns without ranged weapons frequently leads to sudden high-damage ambushes.
Severing vines and harvesting vines
Unlike mobile jungle predators, the Man Eater cannot detach from its anchor block, limiting its pursuit radius to the maximum reach of its stem. Striking the head with high-knockback weapons like the Ball O' Hurt or piercing projectiles keeps the snapping jaws pushed back until destroyed. Slaying a Man Eater provides a 50% chance to harvest a Vine, an essential component for crafting the Ivy Whip and Jungle armor, alongside Ancient Cobalt armor pieces (0.33%).
Trivia
- The Man Eater shares identical AI behavior with the Snatcher, but boasts substantially higher combat stats.
- Its body consists of multiple segment links connecting the biting head back to its anchor block.
