Extraterrestrial siege engines from the cosmos
Triggering the Martian Madness invasion requires venturing into the outer regions of the world after defeating Golem, allowing a floating Martian Probe to detect you and escape safely into the upper atmosphere. Once the invasion begins, the Martian Saucer arrives as the mothership of the alien armada. Its core operates with 10,000 life in Classic, climbing to 17,000 in Expert and 25,500 in Master mode, while direct contact inflicts 80 damage in Classic, 160 in Expert, and 240 in Master, countered by 0 base defense.
The battle unfolds in two distinct phases. During its initial stage, the central saucer core remains completely impervious to damage. You must first systematically dismantle its four perimeter weapons systems: two rapid-fire laser turrets that spray red energy beams, and two heavy rocket pods that discharge volleys of tracking missiles. Stripping away these four subsystems exposes the central reactor and triggers its enraged second phase.
Outrunning the vertical martian deathray
Once its turrets are destroyed, the Martian Saucer sheds its defensive hull and shifts to frantic pursuit. In this second phase, the saucer positions itself directly overhead and channels its infamous Martian Deathray, sweeping a thick column of golden energy straight down while tracking your movements. In older versions of the game, players could shelter safely inside a solid box, but modern mechanics allow the Deathray to pass straight through solid tiles without interruption.
Surviving this phase demands pure horizontal velocity. Constructing a long runway paved with Asphalt blocks gives you sufficient running speed to outpace the beam's tracking angle. Alternatively, using high-tier wings paired with Master Ninja Gear allows you to dash beneath the saucer right as the laser charges, causing the beam to trace empty air behind you. Because aiming during high-speed evasion is demanding, homing weapons such as the Razorblade Typhoon, Chlorophyte ammunition, or autonomous minions keep constant damage flowing into the exposed core.
Technology salvaged from the mothership
Bringing down a Martian Saucer yields an impressive arsenal of alien weaponry. Melee combatants seek the Influx Waver (16.7% drop rate), an exceptional broadsword that fires energy blades which warp back to strike the target up to two additional times. Summoners gain the Xeno Staff (16.7%), calling forth tiny UFOs that instantly teleport into attack range with unerring precision. Mages can claim the Laser Machinegun (16.7%), a mana weapon whose fire rate ramps up into a continuous energy stream.
Ranged fighters acquire the Xenopopper (16.7%), which fires clusters of explosive bubbles, or the Electrosphere Launcher (16.7%), deploying persistent electrical fields that deny entire zones. One of the most sought-after prizes is the Cosmic Car Key (16.7%), granting infinite flight and precise hovering without wings. In updated worlds, it can drop the Arc Surge (2%), while Master mode players can obtain the Cosmic Skateboard (25%) mount, the Martian Saucer Relic (100%), and the collectible Martian Saucer Trophy (10%).
Trivia
- Since version 1.4.0.1, the Martian Deathray passes directly through solid blocks, preventing bunker protection strategies.
- The Influx Waver dropped by the saucer deals higher single-target damage than the True Night's Edge due to its teleporting secondary strikes.
