Chitinous sprinters thundering through hardmode desert caverns
The Giant Antlion Charger is an overgrown subterranean predator encountered in the Underground Desert once Hardmode arrives. With 110 life and 16 defense, it barrels along sandy pathways at rapid speeds, dealing 38 contact damage (76 in Expert and 114 in Master). Unlike smaller antlions, this enlarged monstrosity can barrel through loose sand slopes without losing momentum, pinning players against cavern walls.
Defending deep sandstone choke points against rapid rams
To survive against Giant Antlion Chargers, miners must build solid barricades or use grappling hooks to stay suspended above cavern floors. Setting up minecart tracks or building layered wooden platforms provides crucial elevation, allowing miners to safely whittle down its health pool before it enters melee distance. Slaying one yields Antlion Mandibles at a 33.3% rate (1–2 units), the Mandible Blade at 2%, and Banana Split at 2%.
Trivia
- Giant Antlion Chargers charge significantly faster than their pre-Hardmode counterparts once provoked.
