Rapid underground tunneling for second tier ores
The Cobalt Drill provides early Hardmode tunneling capabilities, forged from fifteen Cobalt Bar units at an Iron Anvil or Lead Anvil. Possessing 110% pickaxe power, it mines through hard rock to gather Mythril Ore and Orichalcum Ore. The drill projects a directional boring head directly at the cursor, inflicting 10 base melee damage and 0.5 knockback on underground pests.
Directional drilling performance and modifier selection
Compared to the Cobalt Pickaxe, the drill suffers from a one-tile reach penalty and lacks a wide overhead swing to bat away cave creatures. In return, its sustained contact breaks stone faster than an unbuffed pickaxe during initial exploration. Because drills cannot benefit from melee attack speed boosts, the Light prefix is unavailable; Godly or Demonic serves as the top reforge. Crafting it requires three fewer bars than the Palladium Drill.
Trivia
- Drills have one tile less range than swinging pickaxes.
- Its pickaxe power allows players to mine Mythril and Orichalcum veins.
