Hoplite in Terraria

Enemy Banner: Hoplite Banner

In the ruins of an ancient civilization now deeply buried, some of its spear-hurling soldiers still walk its marble-adorned paths.

Precision javelin volleys in marble chambers

Guarding the gleaming pillars of underground Marble Caves, the Hoplite is an ancient skeletal centurion equipped with throwing spears and bronze gear. When an intruder enters its territory, the Hoplite hurls arcing javelins with alarming velocity and pinpoint accuracy. These thrown weapons inflict crushing puncture damage that can fell lightly armored miners in two direct impacts, making open marble caverns perilous without overhead platform shielding.

Assembling Gladiator armor and close-quarters gladii

Clearing out these disciplined spearmen rewards miners with useful pre-Hardmode gear. Defeated Hoplites have a 50% drop rate for substantial stacks of Javelins (40–80), granting early ranged fighters high-damage throwing armaments with stacking puncture bleed. Furthermore, each encounter provides rolls for pieces of the handsome Gladiator set, including the Gladiator Breastplate (4.76%), the thrusting Gladius (5%), and even a well-cooked Pizza (2%).

Trivia

  • Hoplites throw javelins along parabolic arcs, allowing them to hit players standing on high ledges.
  • Unlike common skeletons, Hoplites boast distinct combat armor and dedicated Greek weapon drops.
