Awakening bloodstained chests with keys of night
Crimson Mimics stalk the red caverns of the Underground Crimson during Hardmode. Just like their corrupt cousins, they can be manually summoned anywhere by placing a crafted Key of Night inside an empty chest within a Crimson world. Backed by a substantial 3,500 health pool in Classic (scaling to 7,000 in Expert and 10,500 in Master) and 34 defense, these predatory chests leap high into the air to crush intruders beneath massive shockwave slams. A wide arena equipped with campfires and long platform runways gives players room to backpedal while unloading heavy ranged attacks.
Dodging predatory lunges for claws and flesh knuckles
During the duel, the Crimson Mimic periodically closes its jaws, deflecting fired missiles and arrows while ignoring incoming damage. It then bursts forward in sudden horizontal lunges, delivering 90 contact damage in Classic, and an overwhelming 270 damage in Master mode. Slaying this crimson beast yields exceptional early Hardmode armaments: there is an equal 20% chance to acquire the ultra-fast Fetid Baghnakhs claws, Flesh Knuckles defensive accessory, Dart Pistol, Life Drain rod, or Tendon Hook. It also reliably drops stacks of 5–10 Greater Healing Potions at 100% and Greater Mana Potions at 100%, alongside the rare Eater of Life painting at 0.5%.

- Flesh Knuckles dropped by Crimson Mimics are a foundational ingredient for crafting the Berserker's Glove and Fire Gauntlet.
- Closing a chest containing only a Key of Night in a Crimson world consumes the key and immediately spawns the Crimson Mimic.
