Dungeon chest recovery and knockback prevention
Found inside Locked Gold Chests scattered throughout the Dungeon, unlocked using Golden Keys, or obtained from Dungeon Crates and Stockade Crates fished in Dungeon waters. Wearing this historic bulwark grants 1 defense and grants full immunity to knockback from enemy attacks and hazardous traps. This prevents characters from being pushed into spike pits or lava pools during hostile cavern encounters. Eliminating knockback allows melee combatants to strike relentlessly without being interrupted by monster impacts.
Melee positioning and shield synthesis branches
The Cobalt Shield is one of the most reliable defensive accessories in pre-Hardmode, allowing players to maintain aggressive melee positioning without attack interruptions. At a Tinkerer's Workshop, it combines with an Obsidian Skull to form the Obsidian Shield, a Mana Regeneration Band for the Restoration Shield, or a Heavy Sling for Royal Guard's Harness. Reforging to Warding reinforces player survivability, while Menacing boosts total damage output across battles.
Trivia
- Despite its cobalt name, this shield is discovered entirely in pre-Hardmode and does not require cobalt ore.
- Knockback immunity remains active even when the player is inflicted with the Frozen or Stoned debuffs.
