Submerged exploration and Tinkerer assembly

Crafted at the Tinkerer's Workshop by combining a Diving Helmet with Flipper, Diving Gear merges extended respiration with fluid underwater mobility. Equipping this accessory extends underwater breath capacity to 80 seconds, quadrupling standard lung capacity, while enabling continuous swimming by holding jump in water or honey. It can be upgraded further into Jellyfish Diving Gear using a Jellyfish Necklace, which eventually leads into Arctic Diving Gear.

Aquatic utility and transition to late-game alternatives

This accessory serves as an outstanding utility piece when searching sunken Ocean chests, excavating flooded Cavern tunnels, or navigating subterranean shrines. Because it occupies an accessory slot rather than the helmet armor slot, players maintain their complete armor set bonuses while exploring deep waters. Although later eclipsed by Neptune's Shell in late Hardmode, it remains a premier aquatic tool throughout early progression. Reforging with Warding adds +4 defense to withstand submerged predator attacks.

Trivia

  • Diving Gear slows the rate at which drowning drains player health once the air meter empties.
  • Swimming upward through flooded shafts with this accessory consumes no mana or consumable fuel.
